Heather Hill, Inc. – 100-Bed & Ancillary Additions
The New 2-Story 100-Bed
Addition to an existing 77-Bed Skilled Nursing Home, included a new patient
dining rooms on each floor and a New Ancillary Addition that houses a new
kitchen, mechanical rooms, services truck docks and therapy rooms.
The New 100-Bed Addition
was unique in that it met the Owner’s program of beds that met both the
requirement for assisted living, intermediate and skilled nursing beds and beds
for rehabilitation units one in one nursing care facility. At its time, the addition was ahead of the
curve in Nursing Home design, in that all the rooms were private with special
designed private toilets.
The private rooms were
arranged in two 50-bed pods surrounding a central multi-purpose lounge. The multi-purpose lounge is surrounded by
high clearstory windows that flood the area with outside light. Each pod had a sub-nursing station, tub
rooms, and two private patient suites that had a sitting room with exterior
balconies, patient bed and special design patient toilets.
The space between the new
pods housed the central nursing station, head nurse’s office, medicine
room, clean and soiled utility rooms, and staff room. Across the corridor from nurse’s station are
offices and conference rooms. Across
from the nurse’s station was a new connecting link that
connected the new addition to the existing facility. Next to the sun filled connecting link were
the patient dining rooms for the new addition and separate dining rooms for
existing nursing home.
The void exterior
spaces between the new addition and the existing facility formed varying and
interesting sheltered outdoor spaces for the patient gatherings.
